By focusing on social determinants of health, The Humana Foundation aims to promote more healthy days and encourage greater health equity. Social determinants of health – such as asset and financial security, food security and social connections – are the conditions under which people are born, grow, live, work and age that impact overall health and well-being.

Disaster Philanthropy
To aid disaster relief efforts across the country, we donated $2.8 million from 2016 to 2019 as well as more than $50 million to COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts in 2020 through our disaster philanthropy program.
Our History and Impact

Humana Inc. co-founders David A. Jones and Wendell Cherry established The Humana Foundation in 1981 as the philanthropic arm of the company. Their long-standing commitment to Humana’s philanthropy over the years resulted in transformational changes, especially in the areas of education, healthcare and the arts.
 
Today, Humana’s leadership is equally committed to collaborating and investing in scalable and innovative models that demonstrably enhance the health and well-being of communities throughout the country.

Since 1975, Humana and The Humana Foundation’s support of community partners has exceeded $300 million. In 2018, the Foundation invested more than $14.5 million in communities across the United States.
